Current Initiatives

Public Comment: Harvard’s Institutional Master Plan
In response to the release of Harvard’s institutional master plan, we published a public comment with commentary on Harvard’s climate goals in the next decade and recommendations for the administration to achieve its goals.

Fairness for Farmworkers
We advocated for the rights of agricultural workers by spreading awareness about the injustices faced by farmworkers across the nation. We also lobbied to pass the Fairness for Farm Workers Act that protects agricultural workers from abuse.

Food4Thought Festival
We co-hosted Harvard’s first food sustainability conference, which attracted hundreds of attendees from all over the world. We discussed issues and innovations in food production and consumption, focusing on the environmental aspect of these issues.
Previous Initiatives – Fall 2023

Staying Afloat: The HUEJ Zine
Staying Afloat invites Harvard students to reflect on climate justice through original works of art and writing. Its inaugural issue had the theme, “How are Things at Home?” Students from different backgrounds share the ways that climate change has affected their homes through a variety of media.

Winter Clothing Swap
In collaboration with PBHA’s Environmental Action Committee, HUEJ organized a clothing swap for Harvard college students. Over 30 students traded clothes and learned about the environmental impact of fast fashion. We also shared lessons on how to repair old clothes and shop sustainably. We hosted a similar clothing swap in Spring 2023 for Intersectional Earth Week; we plan to host another soon.

Public Comment: Federal EJ Research Plan
We wrote a comment in response to a federal request for information supporting a federal environmental justice research plan advocating for the use of Participatory Action Research (PAR) and citizen science methods to address historical deficits in environmental justice research.
