Who we are
Our History

Harvard Undergraduates for Environmental Justice was founded in 2018 with the goal of promoting environmental justice initiatives and community at Harvard. Since then, we’ve grown into a community of more than 100 members and alumni united by common goals and passion for change.
Through our initiatives, we’ve collaborated with community organizations and international organizations to effect change through protests, public comments, and volunteer events. We’ve also launched two creative publications and an educational outreach program for K-8 students.
Notably, HUEJ members, in collaboration with Fossil Fuel Divest Harvard, started the movement to divest from fossil fuels. This movement eventually culminated in the Harvard Corporation resolving to divest from fossil fuels in 2021, a huge step in reducing the university’s carbon footprint.

Our Goals
Education
Raising Awareness
Through speaker events, panels, and discussion spaces, HUEJ works to educate Harvard students about environmental justice. To expand our impact we regularly publish our research and recommendations.
Mobilization
Taking Action for the Environment
HUEJ members participate in protests throughout Boston and volunteer with nonprofits that advance EJ causes. We also host on-campus events where participants take steps to reduce their environmental impact.
Community
Connecting Harvard and Beyond
We aim to bring the Harvard environmental community together. For HUEJ members, we host smoothie nights and trips to Boston. We also have strong relationships with activists in Cambridge and Allston.
